Merry Christmas

Hello everyone. As a child like everyone else I looked forward to Christmas when we would wake our parents way too early, too excited to wait, but not allowed to go into the living room until the whole family was there.
Now as an adult I look forward to Christmas because as a school teacher it means time off to work on artwork. Only problem is there always seems to be more projects then time. Keep an eye out, I'll be adding pictures here and on my ETSY site.

Zen tangle Diva hits 500k

Check out the diva' new post. You too can join in the celebration!

http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/2011/11/passing-celebration-on-to-you.html?showComment=1320723410647#c4701169035960003915

Christmas was early

I had a rough day yesterday. I had a typical Monday at the high school, everyone seems to hate Mondays. Then I had a three hour training at Orange County Schools. Tired I came home to a phone call where with a part time job opportunity (more about that later) and a chair full of packages!

I received a accidental double order of boxes for the artists in cellophane for the Art-o-Mat project and the manual to help with my new job!

I can't wait to get to finishing my work for the art-o-mat and the new job will help me with the finances so I can do more of my art.

Great Zentangle Blog with Weekly Challenges

Check out the diva, she is friendly and helpful. http://iamthedivaczt.blogspot.com/  She has given a lot of great ideas and challenges.  I wanted to let you see a few of my beginner attempts at tangles.  A book, a good search engine and a willing blogger has gotten me this far.  But at this point I am addicted to this wonderful art system that helps to relieve stress.

This is a Tangle that was done for this weeks  challenge:
Weekly Challenge #41: DuoTangle v. II "Jonqal/Opus"

It's been a while since the first DuoTangle challenge.  And for those of you who are just joining us, DueTangle is a term i coined wherein you use ONLY two tangles.   There was a lot of mixed feelings about that challenge.
Mostly i really pushed people out of their comfort zone to use tangles they maybe haven't used in a while, if ever... and to really get out of the idea behind only using tangles that 'go' together...

Here are a couple other pieces from this week.
I call it fanning the Flames                                                  Do you have a title?  Let me know.

mini ZenTangles

I found a box of mini price tags.  I decided to play with them.  They can be easily dropped in a pocket and with a pen you have zen time.  They may end up on a card later or maybe a mini book.

A rose by any other name...

They're not roses but these Prima flowers are green, sage to dark green.  I needed some in blue, but did not have the money go be tempted at the store.  I mean who can ever go to the craft store and buy only one thing?  So I looked at what my options were.  I know a lot of kits now come with white flowers that you can color to coordinate with your layouts.  I have Prisma Color permanent Markers.  So I used my needle tool and embossing to to straiten out the flowers, then held the flower with the needle tool and used the markers to color the petals.  I worked from the center outwards in case there were any streaks.  Since some of the green flowers were darker than others some of the flowers were darker once dyed with the markers.  However the finished product seemed to work well.  Once dry, the flowers were smooth colored and very vibrant.

Scrapin' Sisters

The Scrapin' Sisters group meet on the third Friday and Saturday at the Salvation Army on Colonial Drive.  This small group meet to share stories, work on their albums and to do paper crafts.  This small group is looking for others interested in joining them for their monthly crops.  This is the second crop that I was able to join them.  If you are interested in joining the crop in August, look for them on Facebook for schedules and times.

Time seems to slip away.

I keep looking at my blog and seeing the date get further and further behind I have taken several photos and scanned some art. But I need to get them on my page. The iPad let's me add text, but I need to download the pictures from my PC. I guess that needs to be a priority tomorrow. I guess I should be glad I'm spending more time creating and not just posting. However I really need to organize my time and do both.

JULY 1, 2011

My tag was not completely dry (the white.) I worked outside my comfort zone, the background of the tag is decorated using a method called Zentangle (drawing style new to me) Then I embellished the tag using Alene's Tacky Glue to make an image lift.  The dry paper is soaked for a couple of minutes in water and the paper backing is rubbed off leaving just the color image. The stamps are preinked and I think from Making Memories.

Birthday gift to myself

What a great present to myself.  I spent the morning painting in my studio, went to lunch with friends then came home and spent the evening doing are work.  I found a book in my collection How to Succeed as an Artist in your Home Town, by Stewart Biehl.  It was produced by Northern Light and I have started reading some of the tips Mr Biehl has compiled for all us artist who struggle with being seen.  How many people have repeated the adage "It's who you know not what you know?"  I guess I like the fact he admits he may not be the greatest artist but he earns enough to do what he loves for a living.  How many of us, whether we are good artists are not could benefit from this philosophy?

May 16, 2011

My Studio is still a cluttered mess, but I have found lots of unfinished projects.  I took a break this weekend and joined some friends at a Crop. (Scrapbooking)  It has been a while, however I did finish a scrapbook I have been working on since 2005.  Six years, humm.... guess it was about time.

It was wonderful to meet back up with my friends, catch back up with each other while working on projects.  Now to dust off a few more projects and get them going.

April 25,2011

I am so frustrated!  I started cleaning out my old files, found some artwork to share and have moved my usb cable, so the photos are stuck in my camera.  Oh man, it is frustrating to try to figure what to do next.  I guess I concentrate on clearing, photos can be downloaded later.

Removing the clutter

I realize as I start trying to get back to my art that my life and my studio are all filled with clutter.  I have spent the week clearing out odd bits and shuffling through unfinished projects.  Some doomed to the trash while others are lined up to finish.

I just spent the last hour clearing out old picture files and organizing the files on my email too.

When I was diagnosed as possibly having Cancer, I was devastated.  I did not have insurance, it became a burden both physically and financially.  Now after a year of being declared free of the cancer, the tumor having been surgically removed, I am still dealing with the financial fall out.  It is however the emotional toll that has really hit me.

My husband gave me a button while I was recovering, "Celebrate the JOY."  I realized I had gotten angry with the world.  I got angry with the simple things, my car broke down (it was 14 years old, it was due) my vacuum quit picking up dog hair, all the little daily things made me angry.  I had to work two jobs to pay the bills and get health insurance. I was always tired and grumpy.

Then it struck me, looking at my life, I had forgot to see the joy, to celebrate living,  I decided to cut back, I quit one of my jobs and to find ways to get back to art.  I had gotten so into surviving the cancer, I had let it make me stop living.

I decided to go to my favorite art store, Sam Flax.  The people are always full of great ideas, new products and creative stimulation.  I came across an old issue of Artful Blogger.  Now as I work to find my creative voice again, I can also share with others who have fought these same issues.
